America: No Longer Under God?

by Michael G. Mickey

(9-14-05)

Does God no longer have a place in the United States of America? I am sincerely beginning to believe He doesn't, except in the hearts of those who are believing in His Son, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior. As for the rest of the nation, particularly its highest courts, many of which are occupied by activist judges apparently bent on dishonoring God, the Almighty is of little consequence.

In case you haven't heard the terrible news yet, a Fox News story has the details on how U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton today ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance is "unconstitutional" as a result of its reference to America being one nation "under God". According to Karlton, the Pledge, because of its acknowledgement of God, violates school children's right to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God."

The Fox News story states the following, in part on the topic:

Karlton said he was bound by precedent of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which in 2002 ruled in favor of Sacramento atheist Michael Newdow that the pledge is unconstitutional when recited in public schools.

Bound by precedent? It seems, in a matter which may have implications in relation to this God-mocking ruling in the future, John G. Roberts, Jr. is likely, according to most sources, going to be confirmed to be the next Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Already, before he has sat in the Supreme Court for even one day, he, like Karlton, is giving indications he is going to be bound by precedent where the matter of the ongoing holocaust of the unborn we call abortion is concerned, as seen in a Globe and Mail article. As a result, 'precedent' is quickly becoming a word I don't care much for. Why is it everytime we see something that amounts to mankind exalting itself above God and His rule over us, our judiciary addresses the matter as if it has no power to right wrongs when it does and should, in fact, feel morally obligated to do so?

The Becket Fund, a religious rights group Fox News indicates is a party to the Pledge of Allegiance case, is indicating it will immediately appeal the case to the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. If that court doesn't change its precedent, the group plans to go all the way to the Supreme Court. When the case gets there, as I feel certain it will in light of the fact the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has already ruled in favor of the atheist mastermind behind this current plot against God in a similar court action in 2002, will the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court be the same John G. Roberts, Jr. who, presently at least, doesn't seem willing to buck precedent where abortion, another topic that weighs heavily on the hearts of Christians, is concerned? Could be!

America's trend toward rebellion against God presently being seen in our activist judiciary is also being demonstrated in the highest halls of our nation's government, even in the White house where we, allegedly, have a Christian president sitting - one that, ironically, has brought more harm to the nation of Israel through his support of the Quartet's roadmap to peace than any of his predecessors, in my opinion.

If President Bush is a born-again Christian, he is absolutely ignorant of God's covenant with the children of Israel where their covenant lands are concerned and it's a clear and present danger to us all. Just look what the president's lack of scriptural understanding or downright rebellion against God has led to! Do you know that, as a direct result of Israel being compelled by the United States and its Quartet allies to withdraw from Gaza, Palestinian Muslims are currently conducting Islamic worship services in abandoned Jewish synagogues in the Gaza Strip, raising the flags of the PLO and Hamas above them while proclaiming their god Allah is greater than the God of Israel, as seen in a Jerusalem Newswire article?

It wasn't too long ago that America was one nation under God, dwelling safely in the shadow of the Almighty as a result of its loyalty to Israel and its outward reliance upon the mighty God activist judges and atheists like Michael Newdow now seem determined to force out of public view.

The bottom line is this, from my perspective: If things don't get turned around and quickly, I fear America is going to be "under God" in a different context ---- under His foot! The Bible makes it clear that the nation that forgets God, as America is presently beginning to do, is cursed!

Psalms 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Not only is the nation that forgets God cursed, the nation that curses Israel and comes against Jerusalem will be destroyed, according to the Word of God! President Bush and all the rest of America's governmental leaders would do well to brush up on their scriptural knowledge on this topic, especially in light of the city the Palestinians, whom the Quartet is vibrantly supporting, hope and even vow to eventually gain control of --- Jerusalem!

Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar is quoted in a Jerusalem Newswire article as stating Hamas will not give up the fight “until the flag of Islam is raised over Jerusalem.”

Zechariah 12:3: And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

If Hurricane Katrina wasn't a judgment from God in relation to what the United States is supporting taking place concerning God's covenant lands, the Word of God tells us our involvement in the Quartet's roadmap to peace is ultimately going to result in tragedy for our nation.

If it comes, none of us should wonder why.
