Middle East peace: Are the gates swinging open?
by Michael G. Mickey
(11-12-05)
In an article appearing on the Daily Star's website, author
Gershon Baskin suggests we should "Open
the gates to imagining an Israeli-Palestinian peace." I'm way ahead
of him in that regard, as anyone who has read my website knows.
As I write this commentary, the European Union's foreign policy
chief is in the Middle East for the second day of a stay that is to last
until November 15th. During that time, he will be meeting with a number
of Israeli and Palestinian officials and, I suspect, rubbing elbows with
Condoleeza Rice and the Clintons as well, who are, according to CNS
News, headed to the region to mark the tenth anniversary of the assassination
of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Excerpt from the CNS News article linked above:
President Bush is dispatching a presidential delegation to Israel for events
commemorating Rabin, who was the first Israeli leader to sign an agreement
with the PLO.
Two years after that signing ceremony at the Clinton White House, Rabin
was assassinated by a religious Jew who opposed his concessions to the Palestinians.
Former Secretary of State James Baker, who worked with Rabin on the peace
process, is leading the U.S. delegation, which also includes Rice, U. S.
Ambassador to Israel Richard A. Jones, Assistant Secretary of State for
Near Eastern Affairs C. David Welch, and Deputy Assistant to the President
and Deputy National Security Advisor Elliott Abrams.
How fascinating! The European Union's top foreign policy man, Javier Solana,
is in the Middle East at a time when everyone in the region (and the world)
is looking back on the legacy of the first Israeli leader who ever signed
an agreement with the PLO. Not only that, but the former U.S. President who
oversaw the signing of the Oslo
Accords in 1993, which was to run for seven years culminating in the birth
of a Palestinian state in 2000, will be in the Middle East as well.
It was Clinton who would say, after a 2000 meeting at Camp David with Yasser
Arafat and then Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak failed to bring about the
peace which Oslo had promised might come in that same year, "I regret
that in 2000 [Arafat] missed the opportunity to bring that nation into being
and pray for the day when the dreams of the Palestinian people for a state
and a better life will be realized in a just and lasting peace."
The many missed opportunities for peace are the sideline issue that dramatizes,
in my opinion, how the prophesied Antichrist is going to become the darling
of the international news media when he succeeds in accomplishing what others
the liberal media have adored failed, often miserably, in achieving, William
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman" Clinton chief
among them.
And, as for Clinton being in the Middle East at a time when the EU's foreign
policy chief, Javier Solana, is making his rounds, I can't help but think
that plays to any goal the EU is presently trying to forward. Why? Because
Bill Clinton just loves ole' Javier Solana, a Moscow-endorsed
Marxist , as seen in a 1995 online foreign policy alert which warned that
Clinton was supporting him to lead NATO, which Solana later did before leaving
NATO to hold the office he presently does.
As seen in the online foreign policy alert linked above, "an influential
Madrid newspaper editorialized, "If anyone in 1982 would have said that
the young, anti-militaristic, anti-NATO Socialist leader who advocated 'active
neutrality' would someday be general secretary of the Atlantic Alliance, he
would have been locked up as a lunatic.""
And yet America's president, Bill Clinton, supported Solana, in spite of
the fact Solana's appointment to such a role couldn't have been viewed to
be in America's best interest by anyone, other than a liberal --- or
the Russians.
At any rate, as I write this, Solana and his old buddy Clinton are over in
the Middle East together where I suspect Solana and any EU contingency traveling
with him will be able to count on Bill Clinton doing whatever he subtly can
to undermine the Republican Bush administration as the Clintons look forward
to 2008 --- and Hillary sitting in Bill's old office soon thereafter. What
I believe, should the EU be working on anything related to an EU-backed peace
covenant in the Middle East, is Bill Clinton can be counted on to further
any EU-presented ideas for peace in his private conversations with present
Israeli leaders, especially if he believes the end result of such a
plan would see the EU being credited with a workable peace plan coming to
the Middle East, whereafter the liberal media could suggest Bush's "failed
policies brought only war and increased terrorism to the region" or something
like that. Why? Because an embarrassment to current US foreign policy would
raise Hillary's political stock, of course. Can't you just hear the spin the
liberal media would create now?
Picture this being said on your favorite liberal newscast, "Democrats,
although exuberant that peace may be coming to the troubled Middle East, regret
that the Bush administration's aggressive foreign policy based on faulty and
misleading intelligence left America in a weakened diplomatic position, allowing
the EU to achieve what a Democrat-led White House may have achieved long ago
had Al Gore not been robbed of his election victory in 2000." Darn those
hanging chads! (And you thought no one would ever talk about those again.
Sorry, but I succumbed to my sense of humor a moment.)
Getting back to Gershon Baskin's Daily Star commentary, there is one paragraph
I don't want my site's readers to miss as it is one of potential significance
to those of us interested in the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. It reads as
follows, with explanation to follow:
Abbas has been proposing for months now to start a secret back channel
to discuss permanent-status negotiations. This has been rejected by Sharon,
but nothing else has been offered except the usual mantra that Palestinians
should end terror. This should not be dismissed, however, because of the
overriding importance of basing any peace process on a process of disarming
and reducing the threats and the realities of terrorism.
As I have demonstrated on at least two occasions now, Abbas and the Palestinians
are wanting to open SECRET permanent-status negotiations in relation
to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Israelis, as I have documented
each time, aren't appearing interested in participating in anything secret,
but I believe we should assume, especially at this time when there are so
many indicators pointing toward the soon-coming return of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, the Israelis may elect to change their mind.
If the Israelis have a change of mind, it's conceivable that no one will
hear so much as a squeaking hinge when the gates to peace in the Middle East
begin to swing open as a result of a third-party's role in bringing peace
to the troubled region, at least where the Church is concerned.
In the Bible we're told that Jesus is going to come at an hour when we think
not, as opposed to when we'll be expecting it, as seen in Luke 12:40 and Matthew
24:44. While Christ's remarks may well be indicative of an apostate Church
having little interest in monitoring developments of prophetic interest taking
place in the Middle East, we should also explore the possibility that Christ's
words indicate the peace plan the prophesied Antichrist will confirm in fulfillment
of Daniel 9:26-27 will be announced without any prior public notice that it's
coming whatsoever!
Having established that the Palestinians want SECRET negotiations
for peace to take place and noting that the European Union, the revived Roman
empire of Bible prophecy, is swiftly becoming a third wheel in the Middle
East, is it far-fetched for us to think the advent of the Antichrist could
be drawing near? No! If you think so, it's time to look away from the many
distractions around you, strengthen the antenna of your spiritual radar, and
start actively WATCHING for the return of Jesus Christ! While none
of us know the identity of the Antichrist to come or even if he is presently
involved in seeking peace in the Middle East at all, there has never been
more going on that indicates we may be nearing his advent and the Rapture
of the Church than right now that I am personally aware of.
We're told that the return of Jesus Christ for His Church is going to come
as a thief in the night, not in the broad daylight of our awareness. Thus,
the need to stay focused, remain suspicious of what's diplomatically going
on in the world around us (without getting wrapped up in trying to identify
the Antichrist among the numerous end times diplomatic players), and call
everyone we possibly can to repentance of their sins and faith in Jesus Christ
as Lord and Savior that they may avoid having to endure the horrors of the
Tribulation Period to come, a seven-year period which will begin when the
restraining influence of the Holy Spirit which manifests itself through the
Body of Christ, His Church, is dampened when the light of the world and the
salt of the earth is removed at the Rapture of the Church, giving the world
over to darkness and unprecedented moralistic and spiritual decay!
Before the Antichrist's rise, the born-again Christian flies - and it could take place at any moment! Never forget that.
KEEP LOOKING UP!
