The earth pleas for the return of Christ
by Michael G. Mickey

2nd Peter 3:3-4: Knowing this first, that there shall come
in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where
is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
As I'm sure you can imagine, I hear from more than my share
of scoffers who choose to ignore the many signs in the world around them
pointing toward the soon coming return of Jesus Christ.
Everything is continuing just as it always has and there is
no reason (no, not even one) to believe the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
is coming anytime soon, according to the scoffers I encounter. Sadly, especially
for those who have never come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and
Savior, they are wrong on both accounts. Yes, believe it or not, some of
those I periodically hear from who say Christ isn't coming anytime soon
report themselves to be born-again Christians, which is most sad indeed.
Is there anything currently in the news demonstrating Christ's
return must be nearing? Surely! A Reuters story,
for example, indicates that our oceans and greenhouse gas levels are rising
faster than they have for thousands of years. In other words, assuming
the story is accurate, both are rising in level faster than at any time
since our Lord and Savior walked upon the earth! Even more astounding is
what we find has happened within the last 150 years alone, according to
the following excerpt from the story (emphasis added mine):
One study found the Earth's ocean levels have risen twice as fast
in the past 150 years, signaling the impact of human activity on temperatures
worldwide, researchers said in the journal Science.
In the Bible we're told, as seen in Romans 8:22-23, that all God's Creation
- man, beast and all His hands have made - is groaning and travailing in pain
awaiting the redemption of our bodies which will occur when Christ returns both
for His Church and, subsequently, to the earth itself, bringing to an end the
suffering we now see being documented in the news of our world today.
How can anyone doubt that the return of Jesus Christ is right around the prophetic
corner when we see such dramatic evidence that our world is descending deeper
and deeper into environmental chaos? I struggle to see it and hope this commentary
and the news story linked above will give the skeptic pause to ask himself why
he is so confident that the Lord's return isn't drawing near.
Skeptics come in all forms, both as Christians
and nonbelievers!
I always cringe when I hear someone who calls themself a Christian suggest
they aren't in any hurry to see Christ return, unless, of course, they say so
while indicating they hope their personal efforts to win more souls to Christ
before then will be successful which I, of course, can see is a valid reason
one might hold such a hope - the only one! Sadly, however, the reason
most Christians are not eager to see Christ return is the same as those who
have no faith in Him at all - the personal goals they have set for themselves
here on earth would be thwarted by His return. These Christians often fall into
the trap of being skeptical that Christ's return is nearing for this precise
reason!
The problem of Christians not wanting to see Christ return due to their own
goals and it manifesting itself as skepticism is one I have encountered among
many wonderful Christians, some of whom I personally know love the Lord and
go to church far more often than I do, indicative of their ability to make time
to do what I often struggle to - a measure of their dedication to Christ. It
isn't that they don't adore Christ and even long to be with Him someday; they
just get wrapped up in their worldly goals, losing sight of the greater goal
and what it will bring!
Whenever I see this within a Christian, I always remind them of what the Word
of God tells us is to come: eternal life, perfect health, peace and comfort,
love and security, being with our Lord, freedom from sorrow and much more! Truly,
our minds have not seen nor our ears heard, neither has it entered into our
hearts what God has prepared for those of us who love Him, as we're promised
in 1st Corinthians 2:9! While we need to have goals in our present lives and
work toward them, we must never let our personal goals exceed what God's goals
are for us. We should always be looking for Him to return with eagerness, as
a child waits to open his or her presents on Christmas morning, and accept that
we are BLESSED indeed if He should interrupt our worldly goals in favor
of us entering into His presence to be with Him forever and forever!
The nonbeliever is skeptical of Christ's return both because he fears he will
be judged by God for the sin in his life he is unwilling to repent of and because
his goals in life are, accordingly, ungodly in nature - goals he doesn't want
to surrender. This person's skepticism is the most dangerous of all because
he denies what he sees in front of his eyes that indicates his desperate need
to come to faith in Christ and quickly, before he either dies in his sins or
the Lord returns for His Church, leaving him to endure the horrors of the seven-year
Tribulation Period to come, which will see far more frightening things take
place environmentally than sea levels and greenhouse gases rising rapidly. Far,
far more!
Whether those who read my site choose to take it seriously or view it as comedic
in nature is beyond my control, but I am confident the end result is going to
prove that I was right in stating what I have so many times which is Christ
is coming soon! My words will not bear themselves out to be true because I,
Michael Mickey, have strong opinions concerning what the future holds for mankind
but because the Word of God, which is never wrong, states that many of the things
I'm documenting are taking place around the globe are signs that Christ's return
is nearing, one of which is seen in the earth's silent plea for the return of
Christ to take place, as seen through our world's decaying environment.
Yes, Jesus Christ is coming soon. Let the skeptic beware.
