A Very Serious Thing Is Happening

As anyone who even casually reads my website knows, I believe
there are more than a few serious things happening in the world around us.
Today, however, I want to limit my comments to a discussion of the "very
serious thing" that some people say is happening which we, born-again
Christians who believe in a literal interpretation of the Word of God, are
allegedly the culprits behind!
As documented in a Reuters
story, "U.S. Jewish leaders say they are increasingly worried that
Christian conservatives want to turn America politically and culturally
into a country that tolerates only their brand of Christianity."
What do these people think we are? The Taliban? As a conservative
Christian, I find that comment to be shockingly off-base as I'm sure many
others who read it will as well. Why? For a number of reasons:
-
Because conservative Christians don't force Jesus Christ
and biblically-based living on government officials, family members, friends,
associates, neighbors or anyone else. While we boldly tell the world
of God's gift of salvation which can only be obtained through faith in Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior, the choice of whether these people will do so
is solely up to them. Those who accept Christ and live according to His
will we say are wise, will be blessed, and receive the gift of eternal life.
In similar fashion, while we strongly advocate the living of a biblically-based
lifestyle, the choice of whether people will choose to do so is theirs to
make and not ours. Those who follow other paths we consider to be lost,
endangering their eternal souls, but to imply we want to turn America politically
and culturally into a land where people have no choices is absurd to say
the very least because we all know - and quite well - that isn't going to
happen.
- U.S. Jewish leaders are only concerned about one brand of Christianity. Conservative Christianity! What does that tell us? I'll tell you what
it tells me! It tells me that conservative Christianity, with its firm doctrinal
beliefs, is biblically-based as opposed to politically correct. We know this
to be true because the world rejects those who interpret the Word of God literally,
but feels no threat whatsoever from those who call themselves Christians while
floating adrift with every current of societal change. I am, of course, talking
about those Christians who interpret the Word of God liberally.
- John 15:19, the words of Christ: If ye were of the world, the world
would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen
you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Abraham Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League, recently said the following,
as quoted in the story linked above: "The polls indicate a very serious
thing -- that over 60 percent of the American people feel that religion and
Christianity are under attack. Some are saying we are attacking (Christianity).
This whole movement is not anti-Semitic or motivated by anti-Semitism. But sometimes
unintended consequences are much more serious than intended."
Sometimes it's hard to decipher what really took place in an instance like
the one documented in the Reuters story, but, reading between the lines as best
I can, I believe Jewish leaders, Foxman at least, fear that the Church's perception
that Christianity is presently under attack (and it clearly is I might add)
is going to lead to anti-Semitism. Foxman's fears and those of his fellows,
if so, are misplaced. Conservative Christianity poses no threat to Jews whatsoever
because we believe, in accordance with the Word of God, the Jewish people are
God's chosen people, He loves them, King Jesus is someday going to sit upon
the throne of David in Jerusalem, and Israel will be redeemed as a nation.
If conservative Christianity is planning a theocratic takeover of America,
it's news to me and a lot of others I'm sure! Mathew Staver, for example, general
counsel of the Florida-based Liberty
Counsel, is quoted in the article as saying "there is absolutely no
effort that I'm aware of to theocratize America or put down other faiths to
expand Christianity."
Even so, some are saying a "very serious thing" is happening in America.
Could it be this is being said because conservative Christians, not to be confused
with those Christians who follow whatever comes along, are making waves by publicly
fighting back against those who openly pose a threat to our faith and the Gospel
of Jesus Christ, the American Civil Liberties Union being one example? Perhaps.
Whatever we're doing is causing individual people and organizations everywhere
to line up in droves to talk about what could happen to them, hypothetically,
if conservative Christianity has its way in America, acting as thought it would
be catastrophic. How absurd!
At one time, believe it or not, America's government was primarily comprised
of conservative Christians. In spite of the "very serious thing" that
was happening back then, America flourished and was blessed by God. Things were
going so well people from around the world left their ancient homelands behind
and poured into America to embrace the freedom and liberty its citizens enjoyed,
leaving one to ponder why something which worked so well in the past for all
of America's citizens, many of whom immigrated from very diverse social, religious,
and ethnic backgrounds, is so feared now. The answer is quite simple.
There is a voice speaking strongly in the world today which doesn't abide in
the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, and he does
so quite often through many sources, he speaks of his own for he is a liar and
the father of lies. His name is Satan and he absolutely despises the born-again
Christian, the name of Jesus Christ, and all that is of God.
While what Satan is doing in America and around the globe is a very serious
thing happening, few people hear the truth about it. If he has his way, the
voice of the conservative Christian is going to be greatly quieted if not silenced
altogether.
1st John 2:28-29: And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall
appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness
is born of him.
Hold on a little longer. Speak out a little stronger. Soon we'll see Jesus. |
