Damascus to house Iran's nukes?
by Michael G. Mickey
(12-21-05)
In the prophetic future, Persia (modern day Iran) is going
to join a Russian-Arab confederacy in an attack on the nation of Israel
described in Ezekiel 38 & 39. Recently, Iran has been the subject of
great international scrutiny, suspected (and rightly so, in my opinion)
of working on a top secret nuclear weapons program.
A question in my mind for some time now, given the existential
threat a nuclear weapon-armed Iran would pose to the western world and Israel,
has been what Israel and the West is going to do, if anything, about the
threat posed by Iran that would leave it capable of participating in the
Gog-Magog invasion of Ezekiel 38 & 39 yet prevent it from destroying
Israel.
The answer may lie in a World Tribune article which, if accurate,
may also explain why Syria will be nowhere in sight when the Gog-Magog invasion
attempt takes place. It may even, in my opinion, be some pretty strong circumstantial
evidence that Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction really did exist
prior to Gulf War II, but were moved into Syria to be hidden as suggested
by The Telegraph in a 2004 report.
First of all, was President Bush and Tony Blair's intelligence
concerning Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction faulty as many suggest
or could the weapons have existed and been moved to Syria? Please consider
the following excerpt from The
Telegraph's report dated 1-25-04 on that topic before we dig into the
World Tribune information and more:
David Kay, the former head of the coalition's hunt for Iraq's
weapons of mass destruction, yesterday claimed that part of Saddam Hussein's
secret weapons programme was hidden in Syria.
In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, Dr Kay, who
last week resigned as head of the Iraq Survey Group, said that he had
uncovered evidence that unspecified materials had been moved to Syria
shortly before last year's war to overthrow Saddam.
"We are not talking about a large stockpile of weapons,"
he said. "But we know from some of the interrogations of former Iraqi
officials that a lot of material went to Syria before the war, including
some components of Saddam's WMD programme. Precisely what went to Syria,
and what has happened to it, is a major issue that needs to be resolved."
Dismissed by many as unrealistic, I and many others have suspected
Damascus played a prominent hand in Iraq being found to be WMD-free. Isn't
it odd we're now hearing that Syria, as documented in a World
Tribune article, has signed a pledge to store Iranian nuclear weapons
and missiles within its borders to prevent the international community from
detecting them once they're assembled? If the latter is plausible, could
the former be as well? I don't know why we'd think anything other than that
quite frankly --- and then there's Bible prophecy to consider.
When the Gog-Magog confederacy attacks Israel in the prophetic
future, the following nations are predicted to be involved in Ezekiel 38:
Magog - Most agree this is a reference to Russia.
Meshech - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia,
but some say it refers to the Moscow area.
Tubal - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia
Persia - modern Iran
Ethiopia
Libya
Gomer - eastern Europe or Turkey
Togarmah - southeastern Europe or Turkey
Did you notice that Syria, the world's #2 state sponsor of radical Islamic
terrorism, is nowhere to be found? While I suppose it's possible Syria
will just sit Gog-Magog out, I can't help but wonder if all the WMD Syria
has now (its own chemical weapons stockpiles and, potentially, Saddam
Hussein's WMD), combined with Iran's nukes it may well be hiding in the
prophetic future, is going to result in a dark, dark day coming for Damascus.
Isaiah 17:1: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away
from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
I'm not being dogmatic in stating this is how things are going to play
out, but would it now surprise us if Damascus goes up in a mushroom cloud
in the prophetic future, given Syria's decision to hide an existential
threat to the nation of Israel and, quite possibly, the western world
itself within its borders? You have to admit it's a theory worth considering
at the very least.
If it should work out that way, wouldn't it be ironic to see Iran's nuclear
weapons program result in Damascus being wiped from the face of
the earth instead of Israel, given Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's
over-the-top anti-Israel rhetoric of late?
I don't know about you, but I find myself on the edge of my seat every
day, waiting to see what is going to happen next in the ongoing drama
we refer to as the end times, leading us closer to prophetic fulfillment
and, most importantly of all, the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ!
Keep your eyes on the skies! Jesus Christ is Lord and He is coming soon!
