My response to a worried brother's e-mail
by Michael G. Mickey
(12-27-05)
Recently, I received an e-mail from a "worried brother"
in Christ, the title of which was 'God bless you.'
'God bless you' e-mails typically are encouraging in nature
but this one was not so much encouraging as befuddling, which I'll explain
after sharing the content of the author's e-mail itself, which he indicated
I could feel free to post. It read as follows:
Well hello rapture alert and please feel free to post this.
I hope you fools like holding your ears to the ground and waiting for
the rapture because it's not going to help you out in determining the
hour of it a second before it happens. I sincerly hope you all enjoy wasting
your time waiting for the rapture and making your lives worthless because
you decide to listen to this speculation instead of living your lives
to the fullest while you still are in fact alive. I must be absolutly
truthful and say that I love you all because I am also a christian and
am looking forward to the rapture. But am I going to spend what time I
have left just sitting and waiting for it? The answer is no. You know
all of you remind me of the lunatic preachers that stand in central park
every day saying the world is going to end. People have been saying that
the world is going to end ever since they were given the book of revelations
and you are all wasting time being paranoid. All of you so called people
who know when the rapture is going to happen since you've pieced it all
together and have gotten a message from god, god said that nobody will
know when the rapture will come but it will be a stranger in the night.
He also said that all false prophets will go to hell. So for your sake,
I hope you change your ways and repent and enjoy life for what it is.
But god bless you all and have a merry ChrismaHanaKwanzica.
Your worried brother,
John *****
In order to address this worried brother's concerns, I'm going to break his
e-mail into smaller segments and respond to them individually as well as I
can. I will place my worried brother's words in blue from this point forward.
I hope you fools like holding your ears to the ground
and waiting for the rapture because it's not going to help you out in determining
the hour of it a second before it happens.
Fools. What an interesting term to call brothers and sisters in Christ who
are longing for the return of their Lord and Savior! Or are we merely fools
because we're trying to determine the hour of our Lord's return? If it's the
latter, my worried brother needs to read RaptureAlert.com a bit more carefully
as no one here has made even one prediction as to the hour of Christ's return.
Mark 13:32 tells us, "But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man,
no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."
This we know, accept as truth, and agree with 100%. As such, this is an area
of worry this brother can set aside.
I sincerly hope you all enjoy wasting your time waiting
for the rapture and making your lives worthless because you decide to listen
to this speculation instead of living your lives to the fullest while you
still are in fact alive.
How does longing for the coming of the Lord make the life of one who does
so worthless? I can only speak for myself, but my life is going just fine.
Most days I'm very happy. I am, in fact, fully aware that I'm still alive.
I'm also fully aware that I am to be watching for Christ's return!
Jesus told those who would follow Him to watch for His return, as
recorded in Matthew 24:42: Watch therefore, for ye know neither the
day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Not only did Jesus tell those who would follow Him that placing their emphasis
on the things of the world could lead to harm, He emphasized that His return
is going to catch many by surprise. Why? Because they'll be busy living their
worldly lives "to the fullest", giving little thought to eternal
things.
1st John 2:15-17: Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For
all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the
world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God
abideth for ever.
Matthew 24:43-44: But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known
in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have
suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such
an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
It is for these scriptural reasons that many Christians today are
turning their backs to a world that has clearly forgotten its God and looking
upward, awaiting the return of Jesus Christ.
Additionally, I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up the fact that a large part
of why some Christians choose to place their emphasis on eternal things as
opposed to temporal things is many of us don't feel as though we fit in with
the world around us very well. We feel like strangers in a foreign land, rejected
in many cases. This we're largely okay with as Christ Himself wasn't exactly
popular where the world is concerned. Jesus said, as recorded in John 15:18:
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you."
C.S. Lewis once wrote: "If I find in myself a desire which no experience
in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made
for another world." This the Christian who longs for the coming of the
Lord fully understands. While we may live our earthly lives to the utmost
of our abilities, we know there is a place being prepared for us where Jesus
Christ presently is that is far better than any here - a place where we will
have an eternal sense of belonging, acceptance and perfect love. Naturally,
we are excited that we will someday be allowed to join Him there!
I must be absolutly truthful and say
that I love you all because I am also a christian and am looking forward
to the rapture. But am I going to spend what time I have left just sitting
and waiting for it? The answer is no.
It's great to hear that a worried brother in Christ loves his fellow brothers
and sisters in Christ and is looking forward to the Rapture of the Church,
but I am left to wonder why one who states he is looking forward to the Rapture
feels compelled to lash out at those who do the same. I could theorize a number
of motives but I'm going to resist the urge to do so.
Who has suggested to this worried brother that those who long for the Blessed
Hope to occur are just sitting around and waiting for it? Students of Bible
prophecy have normal lives they lead just like everyone else. Or does that
come as a surprise?
You know all of you remind me of the lunatic preachers
that stand in central park every day saying the world is going to end. People
have been saying that the world is going to end ever since they were given
the book of revelations and you are all wasting time being paranoid.
Why would a Christian examine a fellow Christian and liken him to a lunatic
for stating that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled precisely as written? If
the point being conveyed here is the content of this website is lunacy, I'm
thrilled to hear there are people in Central Park joining RaptureAlert.com
in spreading the word that Jesus Christ is coming soon as there is abundant
evidence to suggest that is precisely the case! It's my prayer that Bible
prophecy-believing "lunatics" everywhere will begin behaving similarly.
There's that 'world is going to end when Christ returns' misconception on
display again! No one at this website believes or has stated the world is
going to end when Christ returns to the earth! The physical, visible, bodily
return of Christ to the world isn't going to be the end of the world. It
is going to be the end of the world as we presently know it! That, by
the way, is a good thing because this world is in a mess! Amen?
Lastly, the book is Revelation, not Revelations, and those who are seeing
the prophetic signs in the news of our world today given us by the prophets
and Christ Himself as signs of Christ's impending return are not being paranoid
for observing them and publicly making mention of them. They're being faithful
to the Word of God and Christ Himself!
All of you so called people who know when the rapture
is going to happen since you've pieced it all together and have gotten a
message from god, god said that nobody will know when the rapture will come
but it will be a stranger in the night. He also said that all false prophets
will go to hell. So for your sake, I hope you change your ways and repent
and enjoy life for what it is.
No one knows when the Rapture is going to take place as demonstrated scripturally
earlier, but all of us have been given a "message from God" concerning
the conditions that will exist when Christ will return. I refer to this message
as Bible prophecy, through which we can examine the world around us
and see with our own eyes that we are drawing closer, both conditionally and
chronologically, to the return of Jesus Christ taking place, perhaps even
today!
False prophets will indeed go to hell, but those who testify that the Word
of God is accurate to the last jot and tittle, proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord
and He is coming again, and long for His coming will not be sharing in that
dreadful fate.
The overall message of my worried brother's e-mail, from my perspective,
is we need to enjoy life for what it is! Eat, drink, and be merry because
tomorrow we die! If that is the logic behind his e-mail, I would suggest that
he spend a bit more time worrying about his own spiritual condition and readiness
to meet the Lord face-to-face and less about the condition of those who are
obeying Jesus Christ's command to watch for His return. Perhaps my
worried brother needs to prayerfully ask himself what the priorities are in
his life and, after some introspection, make some adjustments. Doing so may,
in fact, lessen his "worry" considerably.
There are a lot of Christians in the world today warming the pews on Sunday
morning who couldn't give a hoot if Jesus Christ returns today (or ever in
some sad instances). Not only that, there is a world full of lost souls who
know little to nothing about Bible prophecy and their desperate need to come
to faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior! Because this is true, I
guess it's fair to say I'm a bit of a "worried brother" myself,
precisely why I spend a lot of my spare time plinking on my keyboard, sounding
the alert that Jesus Christ is coming soon!
