Is a historic shift in EU foreign policy underway?
by Michael G. Mickey
(9-15-06)
An OpenDemocracy.net article indicates "the European Union’s foreign and security policy in the middle east may be on the brink of a historic shift." I couldn't agree more.
The article states that "three developments in the first two weeks of September 2006 offer significant indications that the European Union is beginning to assert itself over foreign and security policy in ways which are causing anxiety and some veiled hostility in Washington."
Let's look at each of those developments:
-
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana reported on September 10th having made "significant progress" in talks held with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani about how to break out of the impasse over Tehran's insistence on continuing its uranium-enrichment program. The United States' position, which is apparently of no concern to the EU, has been that there should be no negotiations until Iran ceases its uranium enrichment program. Simply put, this demonstrates that the EU and US are not on the same page diplomatically when it comes to dealing with radical Islam - and the Iranian regime is as radical as it gets!
-
"Bush administration spokespersons have been demanding "more clarification" of EU intentions towards Iran in recent days, in ways which reflect irritation that Washington can no longer lay down the strategy to be followed by the western allies. The US also views the massive EU-led forces which are providing the backbone of the United Nations's peacekeeping forces in Lebanon with some misgivings. While the UN mission is welcomed, its actual operating mandate is not what the US wanted. At EU insistence the mandate for the UN forces will not include the forcible disarming of Hizbollah." Yes, Washington is upset that its voice is no longer being heard by the world --- or even by its "allies" for that matter. Again, as in the prior instance, the US and the EU are not on the same page. The EU realizes distancing itself from the US is beneficial to its long term goal which is to see the European Union soar past the United States as a global superpower, which Bible prophecy tells us is going to take place.
-
EU foreign ministers have signalled that they want a change in approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict. For a long time now, I've been telling my readers to watch for circumstances to emerge that will provide the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy, namely the European Union, an opportunity to take a leading role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, especially if the appointed time leading to the advent of Antichrist is drawing near. While the EU is still singing the praises of the Quartet's roadmap to peace, it is positioning itself as the sole voice capable of being heard by both sides of the conflict, leaving the door wide open for a leader of Roman descent to confirm peace "with many" as prophesied in Daniel 9:26-27.
As we see in the openDemocracy.net article, "the European Union’s foreign and security policy in the middle east may be on the brink of a historic shift" - a historic shift that may well be leading the world closer to the Tribulation Period by the minute, a seven-year period of unprecedent horror, warfare, death, disease and bloodshed which will be bookended by the Rapture of the Church and the visible, physical, bodily return of Jesus Christ to the earth at Armageddon.
Keep looking up, Christians! Jesus Christ is Lord and He is coming soon!
