The EU-US Divide on Middle East Peace Widens!

by Michael G. Mickey

(9-26-06)

It's coming around much as I have anticipated. A divide is growing between the United States and the European Union concerning how to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as seen in an Alarab Online article. Not only is a divide growing, if a Palestinian unity government is soon formed, this failure to find agreement will likely be highlighted even more than it presently is. Why?

While there are questions as to whether the United States and Israel are going to agree to participate in peace talks if the terrorist organization Hamas has involvement in any such talks as a member of a Palestinian unity government, the European Union, in typical pacifistic fashion, is willing go along with talks taking place between the parties if certain conditions are agreed upon. The EU will talk peace if:

  • Palestinian personalities outside Hamas take the ministries concerned with foreign co-operation, mainly the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance.
  • the new Palestinian government agrees to meet the conditions set by the Quartet, which would require:

    1. the recognition of Israel.

    2. commitment to any signed agreement.

    3. the ending of acts of violence.

The problem with that, however? From an American and Israeli position, which I agree with, it legitimizes the terrorism that Hamas has perpetrated against Israel for years. Once a murderous terrorist, always a murderous terrorist I say, but that's not how the world works today. It's an "anything goes" kind of world when it comes to power brokering.

Although the leaders of the European Union certainly know Hamas is comprised of terrorists presently masquerading as politicians, they are willing to take a chance that these wicked men will make peace with Israel. Why would the EU dance with the devil like that? As we all know, whichever world power solves the nagging issue of Middle East peace will have a great big feather, albeit a blood-stained one, to stick in their cap. When it comes to worldwide power and status, the EU wants it and badly, even if it means its diplomats end up rubbing elbows with the most evil of men. The United States still has a bit of trouble turning its conscience off when it comes to matters such as this and it's hurting transatlantic relations greatly.

Should we be surprised that these two world powers are not on the same page? I don't think so at all as we know that the one who will ultimately bring peace to the Middle East will, in all likelihood, rise from within the borders of the present day European Union. This peacemaker, the prophesied Antichrist, will confirm a seven-year peace covenant in the Middle East.

Could it be that the ever-widening differences of opinion concerning the best path to take in leading the long-time rivals in the Middle East to peace is going to provide a leader of Roman descent from today's European Union an opportunity to fulfill Daniel's prophecies? Quite possibly, although it's noteworthy that Romania and Bulgaria will likely be entered into the EU mix sometime in 2007, which is an ongoing fulfillment of Bible prophecy itself, as seen in Daniel 7:23:

Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

Day by day, the end times picture becomes more clear, doesn't it?

Keep looking up!
