In spite of the fact I write commentaries on a near-daily basis on the topic of why I believe the return of Jesus Christ is right around the prophetic corner, I often get e-mails asking me if I've seen anything to suggest that we're nearing that taking place. The answer I typically give those time permits me to respond to? Something along the lines of, "You better believe it! Every single day!"
Today I want to briefly touch on the environmental condition of our planet, which I occasionally like to do as the majority of the scientific community is, for the most part, singing out of the same hymnal of late, if you know what I mean. Our world is in trouble and they know it - to the point that some of the headlines and stories appearing in the news of our world today are near apocalyptic in content, which comes as no surprise to me in light of all the other signs in the world around us pointing to the soon-coming return of Jesus Christ!
As seen in a Fox News story, scientists are indicating that 40% of the coral around the U.S. Virgin Islands died last year as a result of excessively warm waters. According to the story, "scientists have issued their strongest warning so far this year that unusually warm Caribbean Sea temperatures threaten coral reefs that suffered widespread damage last year in record-setting heat." Not good!
In a different Fox News story we find that "the planet's temperature has climbed to levels not seen in thousands of years, warming that has begun to affect plants and animals", according to researchers.
On the topic of plants and animals being impacted by drastic environmental change, a Yahoo News story states that "a study published in 2003 by the British science journal Nature shows that 1,700 varieties of plants and animal and insect species had migrated toward the North Pole at an average 6.0 kilometers (3.7 miles) per decade in the second half of the 20th century." This, if true, demonstrates, from my perspective, that those who suggest that the searing heat singeing our earth on a near annual basis is merely a pattern of normally irregular weather patterns are dead wrong in believing that. When nature starts packing up and moving north to escape the heat by a distance of 6 kilometers or so per decade for 50+ years, I think it's safe to say that our world's environment may be in more than a bit of trouble. You know what that says to me, right?
It says to me, "Jesus Christ is coming soon!"
