Despised by the world

by Michael G. Mickey

(10-7-06)

I want to begin this commentary with an excerpt from a recent Jerry Falwell commentary I posted to the site:

Actor Ian McKellen, who plays Gandolf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, was quoted on Salon.com as saying he routinely rips up Bibles in hotel rooms.

"Whenever I stay in a hotel, I always check to see if they have a Gideon's Bible, and if they do I tear out a page. I turn to Leviticus 18:22, which is directed against homosexuals; it is one of the Leviticus Laws. I don't know if anyone ever even notices, but I really take exception to that section and I think by now I must have ripped out a few hundred pages. Who knows? There might be someone who has insomnia who stays awake all night who reads the Bible because they have nothing else to do and who might be especially vulnerable to what I really think is Leviticus' pornography, so I just remove it."

But McKellen was not condemned by the mainstream media because its members have largely adopted a stance that is defensive of homosexuality, even when it means the destruction of the Holy Bible.

Imagine if Billy Graham or Dr. James Dobson stated that they frequently go to Barnes and Noble and rip up homosexual publications. The outcry would be rightly thunderous. But there is no media objection to a prominent actor destroying Bibles.

Ever since I read this excerpt of Jerry Falwell's commentary, it has been on my mind. What kind of evil is it that dwells within the heart of man that he can pick up a Bible - the Word of God whether he chooses to believe so or not - and deface it, merely because he doesn't agree with its message? As Dr. Falwell implies, why isn't there an outcry when men like Mr. McKellen do such things? At the very least, the Bibles he has torn belong to the hotels he's staying in, which is a crime in itself! Does no one care about that?

What would happen tomorrow, for example, if a group of Christians gathered together to tear up pro-lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender propaganda from magazines to flyers to whatever at Barnes and Noble, as Dr. Falwell asks? It would be front page news, arrests would be made, and the liberals would have an absolute field day with it. But little attention is given to what is going on in America that is an affront to what the born-again Bible-believing Christian holds dear. Reason? We are despised by the world. Not only that, we are persecuted. Yes, persecuted!

In an article appearing on the Harpazo Network, author Mary Ann Collins writes, in part:

Some years ago, I worked at a job where another colleague and I had to go out of town on an assignment for a week. Since I was going to spend a considerable amount of time with my co-worker, I asked her some questions in order to find out what we had in common and what kinds of things we could talk about. Some of my questions were about religion. I wanted to know if she was a fellow Christian. If she was, then we would have a lot in common and we could share openly about our faith. I was not in any way trying to convert her. I just wanted to have some idea of where she stood. She never gave any indication that she did not want me to ask those questions about religion. When we came back to the office, she filed an official complaint. My supervisor informed me that if I talked about religion with co-workers again, I would be in danger of losing my job. That was persecution, but it was mild and easily remedied. All I needed to do was either change jobs or else not talk about religion. If you compare it to cancer, it was stage zero--a small event, which has not spread, and which can be fixed easily.

What happened to Mary Ann Collins is not uncommon. I've seen it firsthand and so have many others who write to this website, which is why I have links placed to a number of organization dedicated to protecting us from persecutory employers, particularly in the form of links to the Alliance Defense Fund, The AFA Center for Law and Policy, and Liberty Counsel. It is because of our Christ-like willingness to turn the other cheek that the wicked have grown to have such power and influence over us, but, make no mistake about it, the end goal of the powers and principalities ruling over this present age don't merely intend to slap us on one cheek and then the other. The plan is to eliminate our political influence altogether that every manner of wickedness be allowed to prosper without opposition. That, brothers and sisters, we must not grow complacent in fighting against, which evil is assuredly trying to pressure us into doing. We need to pray against the darkness of this present age as intensely as we can - and be thoroughly prepared to take those who would oppress and persecute us to task. When those in power during the Apostles' time oppressed them, did they roll over and die for them? No. They stood their ground. They were outcast, imprisoned, tortured, beaten and, sometimes, put to death. What they did not do, which we need to make note of, is become politically correct in order to appease the wicked in power over them.

Lastly, and I really want all my readers to get this, a WorldNetDaily story indicates that "a Washington organization funded by billionaire George Soros has filed Freedom of Information Act requests with the U.S. Secret Service demanding information about the visits by Christians to the White House." This organization wanted to know about a particular group of Christians' activities, some of whom were specifically named:

Getting the picture? The godless hope the recent Mark Foley scandal, along with information indicating that those who are pro-life, pro-God, pro-traditional family, pro-traditional values, pro-First Amendment are visiting the White House will energize the secular voter base, as well as those whose singular goal is to transform our nation into modern day Sodom and Gomorrah as mid-term elections near. Go figure!

For those behind this insideous plot, it isn't acceptable that we, as Christians, are able to voice so much as an opinion on matters related to political activity, national security or anything else! It isn't acceptable that someone who believes the Word of God even be allowed to participate in our democratic process any longer. Their evil voices, you see, are the only ones they want to be heard! Will we allow those who despise us to continue to rise over us or will we, when opportunity presents itself as this incident assuredly does, sound the alert to brothers and sisters in Christ everywhere of our enemies' goals and emphasize to all them the desperate need that exists for the Body of Christ to get out to the polls every single time they're open and vote our values to the very best of our ability? The goal of our enemies, who despise us, is to silence us and we just can't allow it! The future of nation, our children and grandchildren rests with how we will respond to these vile plots.

Although we do not share the values of many of those pressing the far Left's agenda, Christians aren't working to eliminate them from the democratic process that has made our nation great. Unfortunately, I want to state, once again for emphasis' sake, the opposite is not true! Thus, we must avoid the temptation to become disenfranchised when a scandal such as the Mark Foley incident knocks us back on our heels. There are vipers in both parties on Capitol Hill and it's our job to do everything we can to strip them of the power they hold over the affairs of our nation. The Democrats have plenty of skeletons in their closet as well, as Mary Jo Kopechne could give testimony to were she alive to do so.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm a bit tired of seeing all things of God mocked, belittled and trampled on by the wicked. While the Bible makes it clear that a day is going to come when the light of the world that restrains darkness will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, giving the prophesied Antichrist an opportunity to make his bold move onto the world stage and assume his role as the world's final global dictator during the seven-year Tribulation Period to come, we're not gone yet, Christians! Let's leave this world with a roar, not a whimper!

I don't have the mechanisms in place to counter the wealthy George Soros and his godless cohorts, but, if I did, I'd be preparing a counter-strike right now in the form of gathering a list of every far Left organization dedicated to the destruction of the traditional American family, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage and the rest of the godless horde and submit a request of my own to know how many times those groups have paid a visit to the White House, particularly to see if there's a difference between the frequency and amount of time these individuals spend there now versus how often was the case during the Clinton White House years. I'd be willing to bet that data would send Soros and his bunch of cockroaches scurrying, especially if THAT became public knowledge.

As frustrating as it is for us to endure these trying times, those of us in the Body of Christ who stand our ground will be blessed because of the efforts of our enemies, even if they harm us terribly at times. Their days to be in power are numbered and their number, I believe with all my heart, is about to come up! Our time to be in power, however, under the leadership of Jesus Christ are Lord, will be eternal in the end! May that day come quickly!

Luke 6:22-23: Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

Yes, we're despised by the world, but, as Luke 6:22-23 reminds us, we're in very good company when we are. Very good company indeed!

Maranatha!
