Frozen Turkey Can Lead To War

by Michael G. Mickey

(11-30-06)

When I was on Ken Bagwell's "Heads Up America" radio show yesterday discussing how current events were pointing toward a literal fulfillment of Bible prophecy recorded in Ezekiel 38 & 39, which we commonly refer to as the Gog-Magog invasion or attack, I told him and his listeners that things were progressing so quickly I could barely keep up! How true because, even before yesterday ended, there were new developments to report that could be leading Turkey further from its desire to join the European Union (the EU) and closer to what I believe Bible prophecy reveals is its true destiny - an alliance with Russia and a confederacy of Arab nations bent on the nation of Israel's destruction.

According to an AFP report dated yesterday, "the European Commission dealt a blow to Turkey's EU membership ambitions, recommending a partial freezing of the talks process over Ankara's hardline stance on Cyprus." Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in response to the Commission's recommendation, called it "unacceptable" - yet another reason for us to keep an eye on where a frozen Turkey is headed.

At the heart of the present crisis is Turkey's position on Cyprus which involves a territorial dispute between the two dating back to 1974. The EU wants Turkey to fully cooperate economically and politically with member nation Cyprus, but the Turks will hear nothing of it. Thus, a standoff between the three parties is underway.

While the EU is saying the latest development brought about by a unanimous vote of the European Commission isn't a "train crash", a "freeze" or a "hibernation", the move does represent a "slowing down" of Turkey's EU accession bid.

Cyprus is not pleased with the EU's softline stance toward Turkey and I can't say that I blame them much. Of the 35 policy chapters all EU candidate nations must complete, only 8 policy chapters of Turkey's accession effort have been closed, prompting a government official from Cyprus to state, "For the Cyprus government the freezing of some chapters while Turkey, at the same time, continues its accession course as if nothing has happened, does not constitute a sanction."

Earlier in the week, the first signs that serious trouble was brewing appeared in a BBC report, at least where my eyes were concerned. The article, entitled "Cyprus row halts EU-Turkey talks" smelled strongly of trouble brewing between the EU and Turkey, quoting Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja as saying, "There will be consequences. Business as usual cannot continue."

Business is no longer as usual. Does Turkey have other options?

If the EU-Turkey-Cyprus conflict presently underway isn't pointing toward the Gog-Magog invasion referred to in Ezekiel 38 & 39 being on the prophetic horizon, how about this for a bombshell? Zaman News, an online Turkish newspaper, in an article dated 11-26-06, reported that a British think-tank believed that Turkey might look for a new alliance, perhaps in Russia if EU membership negotiations were postponed,. That's right, Christians! RUSSIA!

The following is an excerpt from the Zaman News article:

“An angry and disappointed Turkey would spurn any partnership that fell short of full membership.”

Rejected by the European Union, Turkey might turn its attention to alternative allies, the article said, commenting that trading and political ties between Russia and Turkey have burgeoned in recent years.

Within the excerpt above we see that trade and political ties between Russia and Turkey have already been burgeoning in recent years and now this!

The EU is doing exactly what the British think-tank indicated might lead Turkey into an alliance with Russia by slowing down or postponing Turkey's already long accession bid to get into the EU, which, as demonstrated earlier, is "unacceptable" to Turkey.

And there you have it! That's how a frozen Turkey can lead to war, resulting in a future fulfillment of prophecies made over 2,500 years ago, as recorded in Ezekiel 38 & 39!

Conclusions

These are the end times spoken of in Bible prophecy, God's prophetic plan is on course, Jesus Christ is Lord and He is coming soon!

Keep looking up! Our redemption draweth nigh!
