A good call made concerning Middle East peace?

by Michael G. Mickey

(12-30-06)

A reader of the site wrote the following to me concerning a recent commentary I'd written recently, both quoting me and showing that a secret diplomacy channel between the Israelis and Palestinians really could be in the works:

*****A secret diplomacy channel that could lead to the sudden announcement that peace has come to the Middle East. Could there be one in the works right now and, if so, could that be why we're told the Tribulation Period is going to come upon the world like a snare or a flood, as well as why we're told that Christ will come as a thief in the night, at a moment when we think not?****NICE CALL!

Abbas: Backdoor negotiations needed - News from Israel, Ynetnews

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Wednesday to open another channel of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians in a bid to resolve the conflict.

How about that? As the Ynetnews article linked above indicates, as well as the Irish Examiner, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has proposed closed-door talks with Israel on some of the Middle East’s most difficult disputes, including the status of Jerusalem and the fate of Palestinian refugees - what the Examiner article refers to as "'back-door' peace talks".

The Irish Examiner article states the following, which is of particular interest to those of us watching for prophetic fulfillment to occur, potentially in the not-too-distant future (emphasis added mine):

Abbas did not spell out why he was proposing that the negotiations with Israel be “back-door”. But as one of the architects of the 1993 Oslo peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians, he is known to champion quiet, informal diplomacy.

“We have the idea of a backdoor channel between us and the Israelis, with the participation of one or all members of the Quartet to discuss all the issues of the final status,” Abbas said, referring to the Western powers – the US, Russia, European Union and the United Nations – that oversee the peace process.

As this story develops in the news, we see other signs that are both potentially indicative of why Israel and the Palestinians are interested in peace talks all of a sudden, as well as why the back-door negotiations proposed above may well be spear-headed by the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy, potentially setting the stage for the advent of Antichrist to occur. Let's look at a few of those signs.

  1. As seen in a Ynetnews article, Jordan's King Abdullah is stating that the Arab world is convinced Israel is not as strong as it has been perceived to be in the past. According to the article he has said, “More and more countries in the region will now believe that the only way to get Israel to listen is through force and not negotiations. Israel will have to take a significant step in the right direction that will lead to calm in the region.”
  2. A Deutsche Welle article indicates that "nudging Middle East leaders and international mediators in the simmering conflict back on the path to peace will top Germany's agenda when it takes over the six-month European Union presidency on Jan.1.

With its neighbors gearing up for war as we know Iran and Syria are at the very least, the United States beginning to waver in its support of the Jewish nation, and the EU beginning to posture itself to push hard for a final status peace settlement to come in the region, Israel seems to be wobbling on its knees somewhat as detailed in the following:

  1.  Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, as seen in an Israel National News article, has shocked the world. According to the article, "Many in Israel and abroad were surprised when the flags of the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority flew side-by-side for the first time, at the official Prime Minister’s Residence." Imagine that! The Israeli and Palestinian Authority flags flying side-by-side! I'm not surprised; I'm flabbergasted!
  2. In furtherance of the above, Israeli PM Olmert has said he is open to "any murmur of peace" from Israel's enemies, according to a Fox News story.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, it seems there is a change in attitudes underway in the troubled Middle East at a moment when the EU is set to push for the end of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict beginning shortly inside 2007. While no man knows the hour nor the day when Christ will return for His Church, what we're seeing take place today is very prophetically significant as it may well be the setting of the stage for the advent of the Antichrist to occur, an event which will be preceded by the Rapture of the Church!

Keep your eyes on the skies, Christians! The King is coming! He's coming!
