Wheat Prices Reach an All-Time High

Revelation 6:5-6: And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

What we find in the Scripture above is that a time is going to come when it will require a day's wages to buy a loaf of bread. Walvoord wrote that this time in the prophetic future will be “a time of famine when life will be reduced to the barest necessities.” Is that foreseeable in the prophetic future? Yes, for any number of reasons but, in this instance, I'm going to use a Time magazine article to demonstrate that this prophecy's fulfillment may well be within view.

Entitled "Global Warming's Next Victim: Wheat", the article tells us that "traders are paying record prices for wheat on world markets, thanks in part to shortages caused by a mix of drought and flooding." Not only that, the article states that:

The U.S. is set to harvest its smallest wheat crop in five years.
Wheat production in the European Union may be down as much as 40%.
Global wheat inventories are expected to drop to their lowest level in 26 years.

Whether one believes that global warming is occurring or not, the scientific community is predicting that changing weather patterns are going to continue to impact wheat production and, in turn, take food off the world's table. As this takes place, human population of the earth continues to soar.

Less wheat + more mouths to feed = higher wheat prices, famine, and, eventually, literal fulfillment of Revelation 6:5-6.
