I'll probably be laughed at by some concerning today's topic, much as I was by the naysayers when I commented on how megacryometeors (huge hailstones that fall from the sky - often on cloudless days no less) may be God's way of demonstrating to us in advance how things are going to occur in the prophetic future, albeit on a reduced scale.

Much as I think megacryometeors may be a forewarning that Revelation 16:21's fulfillment is coming, the content of a Daily Mail article may be a foretaste of what is going to occur on a very large scale in the prophesied Tribulation Period to come as conveyed in Revelation 8:10-11:

And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Now to the content of the Daily Mail article...

According to the article, officials in Peru have revealed that 200 people have fallen ill in the aftermath of an object from space crashing into the south of the country over the weekend.

The following is an excerpt from the article:

On Saturday morning locals saw a fireball plummeting from the sky and heard it smash into the desolate Andean plain close to Carancas, near the Bolivian border.

Believing a plane had crashed, they raced to the site to discover a crater around 66ft wide and 16ft deep.

Soon after, many began to complain of headaches, vomiting and sore throats. Farm animals were also affected - left staggering, gasping and with eyes watering.

By Tuesday, 200 people were ill, said Jorge Lopez, the director of the local health department, who blamed a meteorite. "This is caused by the gas they have inhaled after the crash," he said.

 

MSNBC, reporting the same event, noted that the impact crater left by the meteorite was 100 ft. wide and 20 ft. deep, adding that villagers "decided not to drink the water in the area because they regarded it as contaminated in the wake of the impact."

As we compare this event to Bible prophecy, the similarities are striking.

In Peru, an object was seen falling from the sky burning like a lamp. Upon striking the earth, something was dispersed into the air, whether it was dust from the meteorite itself being smashed into particles upon impact or dust and ground minerals being displaced when the meteorite struck forming a crater at least 66 ft. wide and 16 ft. deep. After that occurred, both people and livestock became ill and residents in the area became afraid to drink from local water sources, fearing they may have been contaminated. And this was nothing in scale compared to what is predicted to occur in Bible prophecy!

About Wormwood...

Many theories abound as to what the star named Wormwood will be. Some have suggested that Wormwood isn't going to be an object from space at all, but an angel bearing the name Wormwood that will be dispatched to contaminate the earth's water supplies. Others believe Wormwood may be the name assigned to a missile or another form of military ordinance that will carry a nuclear, biological or chemical payload of some sort which will be utilized in war bringing about fulfillment of this prophecy. As for me, I take the Scripture at face value.

The word star, as used in Revelation 8:10, is astēr in the original Greek text, from which we derive the word asteroid.

Keep looking up, not for falling meteorites but for Jesus Christ's return! It could come at any moment!
