Looking up --- for extraterrestrials?

by Michael G. Mickey

Recently, in a previous commentary, I touched on the topic of UFO phenomena and my beliefs and genuine concerns on the issue.

Tonight's "Larry King Live" show, as seen in the following pre-show teaser, is going to be on UFOs:

Close encounters with UFOs! Is national security on the line? High-ranking government and military officials from around the world have seen what you won't believe! They're here...and so is Shirley MacLaine with her own unique take!
Interestingly, on the aforementioned topic of whether national security is on the line, would you believe that "a raft of newly unclassified CIA documents reveal that the remote possibility of alien invasion" once "elicited greater fear" in the United States government than a Soviet nuclear attack? That's the case, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report!

The Herald's report states, among other things, that "the subject of UFOs and dabbling in psychological warfare techniques not only focused the attention of the US elite levels for 50 years but some of the greatest scientific and military minds of the era were involved in the effort."

While it's obvious that we have come a long way since Roswell and 1947, I am left to wonder why the United States government was so very interested in UFO phenomena, particularly during the Cold War while a clearly visible and less-than-friendly existential threat in the form of the Soviet Union was arming itself to the hilt. It's hard to fathom, isn't it?

Will anything of interest or even anything we haven't heard a thousand times before be revealed on "Larry King Live" tonight? I don't know, but it should make for interesting viewing, aside from anything Shirley MacLaine has to say.

Why the interest, Mike?

Why would I, as a Christian, have any interest in the show's topic at all? As plainly as I can put it, I am thinking about what could take place in the prophetic future, particularly after the Rapture of the Church occurs.

In the aftermath of the Rapture of the Church, the Antichrist is going to rise to global prominence, his coming "after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." (2nd Thessalonians 2:10)

Those who have "received not the love of the truth that they might be saved" are going to be susceptible to believing in what Bible prophecy refers to as a "strong delusion." (2nd Thessalonians 2:11-12) Therein lies my great concern about UFOs. As the prophetic indicators of Christ's return continue to grow in both frequency and intensity, unrepentant mankind is interested in learning about everything BUT Jesus Christ! Interest in the paranormal, supernatural, the unexplained, UFO phenomena and the occult is soaring and, somewhere in the midst of it all, I strongly suspect that a strong delusion is brewing that is going to manifest itself in full in the aftermath of the Rapture of the Church!

In contrast to the trademark tag line of the X-Files television series [The Truth Is Out There], I suspect that the makings of the prophesied strong delusion to come are quite possibly out there, perhaps already in view.

While I don't pretend to know what will comprise the far-reaching delusion spoken of in prophecy, I wouldn't be surprised if tonight's "Larry King Live" helps to set the stage for it.

After all, those who tune in to tonight's "Larry King Live" are going to hear high-ranking government and military officials from around the world describe seeing what those who tune in won't believe they have!

Keep looking up, but not for extraterrestrials!

Keep your eyes on the skies for Jesus Christ's return! It could come at any moment!
