Daniel 7:19: Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;

Daniel 7:23: Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

The European Union, the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy? I am often told that it doesn't possess the military assets to fulfill the prophecies above. In response, I am quick to remind those who present thoughts like these to me that we are not talking about IF these things will come to pass but WHEN. Additionally, I am quick to point out that Brussels, Belgium is where NATO is headquartered as well as one of two locations the EU Parliament convenes which is, at the very least, 'convenient' in light of what Bible prophecy reveals is coming. But what if we could find greater evidence, even now, that the revived Roman empire is looking to become a great military power? Believe it or not, we can as I'm about to demonstrate.

On November 13, 2007 the EU Observer reported that Paris is going to put defense "high on the agenda when it takes over the rotating presidency of the EU in the second half of 2008."

French defence minister Hervé Morin is quoted in the article as saying that European defense is an "absolute priority" which is "at least as important for European integration as the EU's common currency, the euro."

Morin additionally had the following to say which I want everyone to read very carefully as we are witnessing prophetic posturing to be sure:

"With the common currency, we have created a strong symbol for Europe. But nothing can better express the European community of fate than common defense, a common sense of Europe's threats and security interests."

"A kind of European conscience can grow over the question where, if need be, we want to defend our values with weapons. This is why during the presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2008 we would like to press ahead with a Europe of defense."

 

In Bible prophecy we see that the revived Roman empire is not only going to be able to "defend its values with weapons" but possess the ability, under the leadership of Antichrist, to "devour the whole earth" (Daniel 7:23) and even "wear out the saints of the most High" in the Tribulation Period to come! (Daniel 7:25)

On November 16, 2007 the EU Observer provided us with more evidence indicative that prophetic posturing is underway on this front, reporting that UK foreign secretary David Miliband recently called for a "strengthening of the EU's military capacities" during his first major speech on EU policy.

What's left to be said, Christians? We may be watching the opening stages of how the Beast got its teeth so to speak - another example of why it has been said that Bible prophecy is history written in advance.
