Star wars are in the news. No, not "Star Wars" of the George Lucas variety but REAL star wars - the kind that may be of particular interest to those of us watching for the return of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The BBC is reporting that, although galaxies have been observed colliding in space before, something is being witnessed by scientists now that has never been observed before - "galactic violence" being caused by a supermassive black hole firing a powerful jet of particles into a nearby galaxy, the end result of which scientists are anxiously waiting to record.

In Bible prophecy we are told that there "shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars" in the last days. (Luke 21:25) We're further told that "great signs shall there be from heaven." (Luke 21:11) The grand culmination of these signs will take place at the very end of the Tribulation Period to come, immediately prior to Christ's return to earth, as we read in Matthew 24:29:

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

As dramatic as what scientists are presently observing taking place as documented in the BBC story above is, what we see is going to take place in our galaxy in the prophetic future, potentially very soon, is far more dramatic! The upside of what is to come, at least from a Christian perspective, is what is going to take place next, as we read in Matthew 24:30:

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
