Global Food Stocks Dwindling

by Michael G. Mickey

(12-21-07)

The International Herald Tribune is reporting the following, in part (emphasis added mine):

In an "unforeseen and unprecedented" shift, the world food supply is dwindling rapidly and food prices are soaring to historic levels, the top food and agriculture official of the United Nations warned Monday.

The changes created "a very serious risk that fewer people will be able to get food," particularly in the developing world, said Jacques Diouf, head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

On many occasions I've made the statement that global population is continuing to rise to the extent that mankind's ability to produce food is incapable of keeping up. Hence a very serious problem exists.

Not only does a food availability problem exist, it is worsening rapidly at a time when global weather patterns some suggest is being caused by global warming is greatly impacting the production of food in areas where doing so isn't typically a problem. The scenario unfolding before our eyes is frightening to say the least, but there is a biblical explanation for it.

The Bible clearly tells us that food is going to become scarce in the last days! Jesus Christ said, as recorded in Mark 13:8:

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

"These are the beginnings of sorrows"

As troubling as a news story like the one above is to read in light of what one can logically derive is coming in light of ever-rising global population, it is important to note that Christ said that famines of the present variety are only the beginnings of sorrows! What did Christ mean by that? Obviously He meant that things were going to get far worse at a later time!

In Bible prophecy, we read that a time is coming when God is going to try wicked, unrepentant mankind. Commonly referred to as the Tribulation Period, a seven-year period of trial will begin at an hour in human history known only by God. It will subsequently impact everyone on the planet. Revelation 3:10 makes this abundantly clear, telling us this "hour of temptation" will come upon "all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth."

Solely addressing the global food supply, we get an idea of how nightmarish life in the Tribulation Period is going to be in Revelation 6:5-6:

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

"A measure of wheat for a penny and three measures of barley for a penny"

What this prophetic passage envisions is a coming time when an entire day's wages will be needed to buy a day's worth of bread. In the passage we see that barley, a less nutritious form of grain, will be available in greater quantities for those who have more mouths to feed than they have money to. What a sad and terrible time is coming for this world because of mankind's sinful nature! And yet, even as I type this, those who pride themselves in being enemies of Almighty God are doing everything in their power to oppose Him, inviting this fate upon mankind.

Is there any hope?

Yes! If you're reading this and you're a Christian, your redemption draweth nigh! The famines presently causing global food supplies to dwindle are but one of a plethora of signs in the world around us pointing to the soon-coming return of Jesus Christ for His Church - an event that could occur at any moment, even today!

If you're reading this today and you're not a believer in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I would be very careful to dismiss what you have just read here as though it's insignificant. Here at RaptureAlert.com, documentation has been being gathered for years pointing toward the soon-coming return of Jesus Christ as prophesied in the Bible!

What we've been told to watch for leading up to Christ's return for His Church is appearing in the news of our world today on a level that is unprecedented! I believe I have made an outstanding case for that argument to the extent that I welcome you to go to the archives of this site and read commentaries written by me and a variety of guest commentaries between 2005 and the present and see the evidence for yourself! I don't pluck connections between Bible prophecy and current events out of thin air but find clear connections between the two from news sources that everyday people turn to and trust to keep them up to date concerning the state of our world today.

If you're reading this and you've never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, my hope is you will simply look at what the Bible said would be happening in the last days, compare what Bible prophecy said would be going on to what is taking place in our world today which will demonstrate that the Bible is proving itself to be perfectly accurate, and then ask yourself a question: What am I going to have to go through if Jesus Christ comes for His Church today and I find myself left behind? The answer to that question is contained in my Post-Rapture Survival Guide but why roll the dice with your eternal soul on the line? Why not accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior today? It's such an easy thing to do! Christ loves you - and is waiting to hear from you.
