When God Builds A Fence

Reuters is reporting that a "drug-resistant strain of potentially deadly bacteria has moved beyond the borders of U.S. hospitals and is being transmitted among gay men during sex." The pestilence in question is a staph superbug which can "cause life-threatening and disfiguring infections" according to the report. In 2005, approximately 19,000 Americans died after developing staph infections caused by this particular superbug, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA.
Jesus said, as recorded in Matthew 24:7:
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
In recent years there has been a great deal of news reporting done on the topic of drug resistant strains of a variety of pestilences. That this has been taking place comes as no surprise to those of us familiar with bible prophecy. Even so, in this particular instance, we find a number of prophetic tie-ins of interest.
In the Reuters story we find that those who practice sexual lifestyles which God has forbidden, namely homosexual lifestyles, are 13 times more likely to be stricken by this pestilence than their heterosexual counterparts. That would be because, according to the report, this particular type of staph bacteria apparently tends to reside in the bodies of its carriers in one of two areas - the nose and anal areas.
It is written in Leviticus 18:22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
So, thus far, we see that a deadly pestilence is on the move and is, partially at the very least, becoming more common due to sexual practices that God has forbidden. In Bible prophecy we're told that sexual immorality of this nature will be rampant in the last days.
Luke 17:28-30: Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
But there is more! According to the Reuters report, illicit drug use is contributing to this deadly pestilence's spread. This has an end times connection as well.
In Revelation 9:21, detailing events taking place inside the Tribulation Period to come, well into the final seven years of human governship over the earth this side of the Second Coming of Christ, we find that mankind will yet be living in unrepentant rebellion against God:
Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
And what, exactly, are sorceries? The original Greek for the word 'sorceries' is pharmakeia {far-mak-i'-ah} which can refer to magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it, but can also refer to the use of or the administering of drugs!
The nature of God's fences
As I'm sure comes to no surprise to a majority of my readers, I receive quite a bit of e-mail from those who have a problem with the boundaries or fences God has built for us in His Word.
Many today view God's fences as though they're jail cells that prevent them from doing what they want to do - and for no good reason. But me? As I look at the examples we find in this one news story alone, I can clearly see why God has built many of the fences He has.
Some fences that are built, both by men and by God, are designed to keep us inside a particular area. Others, however, are built to keep us out of areas that could be harmful to us.
When God builds a fence? He's usually trying to protect us from things that are going to be harmful to us. That would be because He loves us. Therefore, when we ignore the fences or boundaries that God has set up for us in His Word, there are going to be consequences. That's why He built them to begin with.
Because mankind, due to its lusts in combination with Satan's deceptive tactics, is doing everything in its power to disassemble, climb over, dig under, or walk around all God's fences built for our protection, things are bad and getting worse all the time in these last days. We can fully expect that trend to continue until God calls His Church home.
Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
God's fences and the believer
When God builds a fence, we of all people should honor it to the very best of our ability and, if by chance we find ourselves over it, through it or around it in a moment of spiritual weakness, we should stop dead in our tracks, repent and get back inside the safety of His fence. Why? Because there is no safer place for a believer in Christ to be than inside the fences of His perfect will.
