From a WorldNetDaily.com article:
For the first time at a California two-year college, a student council passed a resolution to support a proposed ban on "gay" marriage.
The American River College Student Council, facing fierce opposition and curses from peers Tuesday, voted 8-3 with three abstentions to support Proposition 8, known as the Marriage Protection Amendment.
Students who support "gay" marriage are furious, claiming they have collected 450 signatures to recall the eight students who voted for the resolution, the Sacramento Bee reported.
If the signatures are validated, the college will hold a special election within 10 days to decide whether the students will be recalled.
Former student representative Yuriy Popko spoke in favor of the resolution at American River College, the largest community college in California with 37,500 students. He told WND the student association has a right to take a position on issues that affect education policy.
"We have classes at community colleges that teach about marriage," Popko said. "Some people don't know that. There are psychology classes that teach family dynamics and about everything from childhood to marriage. If Proposition 8 isn't passed, there will be a redefinition of marriage that will be taught in these classes."
My! My! My! How things have changed in America in recent years, huh? What only a few decades ago, maybe even less, would've led to the student leaders of this college being applauded for standing up for the traditional form of marriage now leads to outcry large enough to make news headlines! God help us as a nation that this is true, but isn't this
precisely what God told us to expect to be taking place in the last days?
When the world becomes Sodom and Gomorrah
Many years ago, I wrote a commentary wherein I explained how the homosexual agenda and mankind's wickedness in general is blazing a pathway to God's wrath falling upon a world that has chosen to forget Him.
I titled it "
When the world becomes Sodom and Gomorrah." If you haven't read it, I think you should as it applies more and more to the world we're living in with every passing day - a reminder that Christ's return is near, potentially at the very door! The
WND article above is exemplary of its message.
The role tolerance played in Sodom and Gomorrah
Can you imagine the scene we see played out in Genesis 19, which led to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, taking place on your street and no one - absolutely no one - caring enough to try and quell it? It's almost unfathomable, isn't it? But let me ask you something and I want each of you to search your hearts in relation to it: Are we, today, doing any more to prevent the evils of our time from becoming societal norms than the citizens of Sodom did? Arguably, no. If we were, the American River College Student Council wouldn't have been the recipients of the wrath they were for merely standing up for traditional marriage - the
only form of marriage that Almighty God created and approves of!
If today a group of men gathered outside my neighbor's door demanding that guests in that home be brought out so a band of hooligans could have sexual relations with them against their will, homosexual or otherwise, I don't think it would fly. In fact I know it wouldn't, but there is something about the story of Sodom and Gomorrah that the Lord only recently laid on my heart that shows me just how morally and spiritually bankrupt the people there had become - so tolerant of lawlessness and sexual immorality that they would all gather around to watch the spectacle of an event like the one described in Genesis 19 taking place in
their neighborhood and not so much as lift a voice of disapproval. A very tolerant and submissive people the citizens of Sodom had become - and nauseatingly so!
Scriptural evidence
In Genesis 19:1-3, we see Lot meeting the heavenly ambassadors at the gates of Sodom, inviting them into his home to dine and rest, but, beginning in verse 4, things take a turn for the worse as those familiar with this account from the Bible know.
Genesis 19:4: But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where [are] the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Do I believe that every resident of Sodom would vote for
San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, who now hopes to become the governor of California, if they were residents of California today? No, but, as we see in Scripture, none of them were bold enough to stand up against the wickedness of their day! They were apparently accustomed enough to it that they would literally stand by as onlookers when abhorrent evil was afoot! It sounds a lot like today, doesn't it? It sounds a lot like us - the
tolerant robots that we've become.
The days of Lot revisited
Never before in the history of our great nation have minority belief systems, particularly belief systems that fly in the face of God's will, gained as much mainstream influence in our society as they have recently. And why is that? Because, quite frankly, most people today, even Christians, have adopted a defeatist attitude where many of the most important issues of our day are concerned.
Proposition 8, up for a vote in California in November? If the Christians of California refuse to rise up in defense of Almighty God's Word and vote in favor of California's state constitution being amended to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman, it will represent a turning point in America that will give rise to further
homosexualization of our nation, chipping away at the traditional form of marriage which is, not surprisingly, healthiest for our children.
Only in America today could a man like San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, who "famously began his tenure in 2004 by trying to legalize gay marriage when he officiated over same-sex marriages in San Francisco City Hall" - an act of anarchy on his part not to mention a slap in the face of God - be capable of even
imagining that he could be elected governor of California! What is wrong with us as a nation that this is possible? Is our moral compass completely broken or what? It would seem so.
The world we're living in today? It's like the days of Lot revisited! Right is wrong, left is right and down is up! What a confused and spiritually bankrupt people we have become! Surely, the Lord's return is at hand as prophesied - the only good we can take away from much of the disturbing news we read and hear of today!
Luke 17:28-30:
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all.
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
Closing Thoughts
A recent study, the results of which were posted in
The Telegraph, reinforces the fact that God's way is the best way, no matter how you slice it.
God's foundation for the family is marriage - one man to be a father and one woman to be a mother. Never before in the history of mankind has same-sex marriage been considered an acceptable alternative to that solid founding stone in any successful society. There are multiple reasons for that, but let's look at a few excerpts of interest from The Telegraph's website concerning the study linked above that help us to see why this is true:
- Strong fatherly involvement in a child's early life can improve a child's future career prospects.
- Children who spend time with their fathers have a higher IQ.
- Researchers warned that it was not enough for parents to live together, but that a father should be actively involved in a child's life to benefit their development.
- Jon Davies, chief executive for Families Need Fathers, said: "We hope that research like this will lead to the government to reconsider how poorly served separated families often are and how a child needs a father as well as mother."
What Jon Davies is quoted as saying in the Telegraph article hits the nail right on the head, doesn't it? Children need a father in their life and a mother. They don't need two Dads or two Moms; they need to be raised in a traditional home to do best in the world!
The doctor in charge of the study said, in part, that there is a "real sizeable difference in the progress of children who benefited from paternal interest."
God's way is always the best way and, Christians, we need to be willing to fight for God's way to remain the only legal way for a marriage to exist. Anything else, after all, isn't a marriage according to God.
When we willfully allow to be legitimized things we know are not in the best interest of our nation's children, we're literally contributing to them struggling to do well academically, societally and even deep into their adult lives and careers, assuming the study quoted here is correct in its findings.
If we would humble ourselves before God, reach out more fervently to a lost and dying world, and commit ourselves to fighting a good fight for what is righteous in the eyes of our Lord, we could move mountains in this troubled world, fighting one spiritual battle at a time.
May God give us the wisdom, strength and courage we need to do what we can to prevent our nation from getting any deeper into the spiritual pit we are digging for ourselves.
Rise up, Church!
