What a terrible topic to have to discuss on Veteran's Day - a day when we honor the service of brave men and women who have defended this nation and its freedoms throughout its storied history and consider the many sacrifices being made by those doing so now, my son-in-law among them.
From the Associated Press:
A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.
"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."
Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.
"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

I pray this congressman's fears are unwarranted but history should never be overlooked when it comes to the tactics those seeking to implement dictatorial rule over a society have resorted to in the past to achieve their goals.
Hopefully, those presently serving our nation in the military and civilian law enforcement wouldn't allow what happened in Nazi Germany to happen here, in the land of the free and the home of the brave, but if they should fail in keeping their vows made to defend our nation and the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and
domestic, those of us who "cling to guns and religion" may find ourselves clinging to both more strongly than ever.
Father, I earnestly and humbly pray that the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against any power that should threaten our great nation's freedoms for the sake of the Church, that those of us who still honor your holy Word might continue to stand and peacefully live our lives as free men and women until our work here is done and we've been called home. I ask this in the name above all names, Jesus Christ. Amen.
