Bishop Eugene Robinson: Not especially Christian

by Michael G. Mickey
(1-12-09)

With great bewilderment at the wickedness of our nation in these last days, I have watched the clamor surrounding the issue of Pastor Rick Warren of California's Saddleback Church being asked to pray at Barack Obama's inauguration set to take place eight days from now.

First, the homosexual community was 'offended' that Rick Warren was asked to pray in light of the fact he had supported California's Proposition 8 which voters in the state passed making same-sex marriage illegal there. Shortly afterward, the atheists and secularists were upset that Rick Warren might pray in Jesus' name at the ceremony. If it isn't one thing, it's another these days!

Heaven forbid that the Savior of the world's name be dropped by a Christian in prayer, right? And how dare Barack Obama betray the gay community that supported him by having someone pray that doesn't accept their sinful lifestyles as appropriate! The nerve of it all!

The latest on this front? Sure to please the homosexual community, my favorite heretic in all of Christendom today, "Bishop" Eugene Robinson, the Episcopal Church's first openly gay bishop, has now been asked to pray at a pre-inauguration event to be held at the Lincoln Memorial which will be attended by both President Obama and Vice President Biden. This comes after Robinson, last month, likened Obama's choice to have Warren pray at his inauguration to "a slap in the face."

In a OneNewsNow.com article, Robinson says he doesn't know what he's going to say yet, but he knows he isn't going to use a Bible. The following are some direct quotes made by Robinson found in the article:

  1. "It's important for any minority to see themselves represented in some way. Whether it be a racial minority, an ethnic minority, or in our case, a sexual minority. Just seeing someone like you up front matters."
  2. "While that [the Bible] is a holy and sacred text to me, it is not for many Americans. I will be careful not to be especially Christian in my prayer. This is a prayer for the whole nation."

My response to these comments on the part of Eugene Robinson?

  1. Truly, it is nice for a minority to see someone like them up front, but you know what else would be nice? To see the majority of people in this nation who oppose the lifestyle of Eugene Robinson on religious grounds be respected by our incoming president and his administration! If Eugene Robinson felt like he was slapped when Rick Warren was asked to pray, I, personally, feel like Barack Obama has shot me and every Bible-believing Christian in America and spit on our Bibles to boot by putting a wolf in sheep's clothing like Eugene Robinson in the national spotlight on his very first day in office! Christians who voted for Barack Obama, irrationally thinking he might turn out to be different as president than he has always been, namely the nation's most liberal Senator? You sowed the wind on November 4th, 2008. You're going to reap the whirlwind, beginning on January 20th, 2009! A swift return on your investment in the future of our nation to be sure!
  2. The Bible is a sacred and holy text to Eugene Robinson? That's news to me. In fact, I'm left to wonder which verse he's referring to because there are a lot of them that are apparently invisible to him. And he isn't going to pray "especially Christian" at the Lincoln Memorial? Is it not idolatry for a Christian to pray a prayer addressed to the god of political correctness? Eugene Robinson is careful not to be "especially Christian" on any day from where I'm sitting! He's not "especially Christian" in his church, not "especially Christian" when he speaks, not "especially Christian" in his home, nor "especially Christian" in his lifestyle! He is a disgrace to the Episcopal Church, disqualified from being a bishop by the very Word of God itself, and yet he is chosen to offer prayer on behalf of our NATION? UNACCEPTABLE! I encourage all Christians who read this commentary to express themselves to the Democratic Party concerning this outrage, as well as to boycott all television coverage of the event to be held at the Lincoln Memorial.

Arguably, the United States of America is a nation that has been blessed as abundantly, if not more, than any before it. It is also, to my dismay and our collective shame, a nation that has forgotten its God. Barring a radical change in spirituality, America's days are numbered. Who says so? I do, based solely on God's Word.

Psalm 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
