Question: Will there ever be a global government?

Revelation 13:7-8: And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Although it has been a goal of the United Nations to establish a global government for years, they have had little success. Currently, the world is too divided socially, economically, and religiously to come together in this manner.

Clearly, it is going to take an event of incredible magnitude to cause the citizens of the world to set aside all their differences and unite under a global government. What do I think this event will be?

It could be one of any number of scenarios. Only God knows for sure, but He has told us it will happen. Let's speculate a moment on how it could happen, just to illustrate my line of thinking.

The Bible teaches us the global government of Antichrist will arrive after the Rapture of the Church has taken place. As such, it is quite possible the event that will unite the world will be the Rapture event itself. Why do I say that?

Let's consider the impact the Rapture of the Church would have globally using deliberately low estimates.

Imagine for a moment the Rapture took place today and a million people vanished without explanation from each country in the world leaving behind a debt of $100. How much of an economic impact would that represent globally? Think of it!

Imagine the impact the Rapture would have on the functional aspects of life globally when people from every profession vanished without a trace! Doctors, lawyers, police officers, hairdressers, operators, store clerks, garbage collectors, ministers, counselors, secretaries, professional athletes, etc., all gone without a trace! Can you imagine the panic?

Imagine the emotional anguish of literally millions of people from around the globe grieving over the loss of friends and relatives. Can you imagine a moment darker than this for mankind? The trauma of the Rapture will make the pain the world felt on September 11, 2001 seem pleasant by comparison. Sadly, in the initial aftermath of this painful event, the world will not have one Christian present to offer comfort, support, or hope to those left behind, adding to the crisis.

Imagine that someone suddenly arrived in the midst of all this chaos with all the answers to resolve all the world's problems. Imagine this person was by all appearances a man of peace, offering to begin the world's healing process by resolving one of the most bitter rivalries in the world - the rivalry between Israel and her Arab/Palestinian enemies. Imagine he actually succeeded in doing this, unlike so many other politicians who've tried and failed miserably in the past.

If you can imagine that, you can imagine how an event like the Rapture of the Church taking place could change everything in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye!

Is that how it's going to happen? I have no idea, but it isn't hard to see how an event of that scope could draw all mankind together under a global government, global currency and global leader - the Antichrist.
