Have we forgotten the Ten Commandments?
by Michael G. Mickey
I recently read a news story which had the
following to say concerning a poll conducted of 1,000 people on the topic
of the Ten Commandments:
- Only three of the Ten Commandments made a showing in the
poll. THREE!
- Less than half of those polled remembered the Commandments
not to steal, murder or commit adultery.
- Only 9% of those polled recalled the Commandment not to lie.
- Only 4% of those polled remembered to keep the Sabbath day
holy.
- Only 11% remembered to "honor thy father and mother."
And we think the removal of God's Word from our schools and
national institutions isn't having an impact on the moral and spiritual values
of society today?
In the interest of helping everyone remember the Ten Commandments
or at least know where they can find them quickly to review them periodically,
here they are:
- Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)
- Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. (Exodus
20:4)
- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
(Exodus 20:7)
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8)
- Honor thy father and thy mother. (Exodus 20:12)
- Thou shalt not kill. (Exodus 20:13)
- Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)
- Thou shalt not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
- Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
(Exodus 20:16)
- Thou shalt not covet. (Exodus 20:17)
How great would the world be today if all mankind sincerely
tried to live by God's Ten Commandments? I guess the answer to that question
is why the powers of darkness are working so hard to insure no one knows them. |
