Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village:
and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard
his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said,
Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid
her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful
and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall
not be taken away from her.
What a great lesson we can learn from this passage of Scripture, particularly
in the end times world we're living in with its many distractions! As Martha
toiled away in the kitchen, pitying herself for the hard work she was doing
with no help, her sister Mary was at the feet of Jesus, listening carefully
to His every word.
Finally, clearly frustrated she was working alone, Martha asked Jesus to
implore Mary to leave His side and come to her aid in serving their guests.
Jesus pointed out something in responding to Martha each and every one of
us needs to remember. There is, in this life, a needful thing which needs
to be the focus of our lives - our relationship with Jesus Christ!
Although life is hectic for all of us in the busy world we're living in,
we need to find some time each and every day to spend with God, setting aside
the troubles and stresses of daily life. In the wicked world we're living
in, it's absolutely needful for us to do so! During our time spent with God,
we need to study His Word, pray and praise Him.
Psalms 1:1-2: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate
day and night.
2nd Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Psalms 5:3: My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning
will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Psalms 55:17: Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud:
and he shall hear my voice.
Psalms 7:17: I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will
sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
Psalms 86:12-13: I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and
I will glorify thy name for evermore. For great is thy mercy toward me: and
thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.
Psalms 104:33: I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise
to my God while I have my being.
Psalms 18:46: The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of
my salvation be exalted.
Having a relationship with God. It is, as Christ stated to Martha, the one
thing that is needful in our lives!
